Story Premise
Many decades have passed since the fateful demise of all human life on Mars.
Among the human ruins, a fledgling tree miraculously holds on to life, growing out of the rubble.
The tree, the sole remnant of complex earthly biology on Mars, is minded by
the embodiment of humankind’s greatest technological creation – The last remaining android.
The android, burdened with the spirit of humanity in its programming, instinctively nurtures the tree in the hope that it may bloom and seed life once more.
Story-world history
Late in the 21st century
War and ecologically destructive human activities rendered the earth a dystopian wasteland.
The human population drastically declined, with all vestiges of earth’s human civilization reduced to decrepit ruins.
In the wake of the strife, humankinds’ technological advancements allowed their most affluent to successfully settle on earth’s neighboring planet - Mars.
Terraforming of the red planet proceeded, attempting to reach the settlers ultimate goal – birthing a second earth, suitable for life.
Breakthroughs in biotechnology and artificial intelligence allowed the humans to create
a population of cybernetic androids.
Although, intentionally imbued with the spirit of humanity, the androids served as loyal docile servants.
The advent of the androids precipitated the human settlers mutual focus toward research, leisure and high culture.
In time, the sun would set on the unprecedented age of prosperity for the humans on Mars.
The human population would once again decline, ultimately falling to zero.
The abandoned technological creations remained, gradually deteriorating on the increasingly lifeless world.
